It is some times called The International Alphabet of Mahl Transliteration (IAMT) The tables below give the Devanagari equivalent of each letter but include letters from Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and Arabic to illustrate the transliteration of non-Devanagari characters. The Standard Alphabet of Mahl Transliteration, intended for the romanization of all Indic scripts, is an extension of IAST.
